Arriving to Namibia!
Sunset views from our lodge aptly named "The Elegant Desert Lodge” I’ve never been to Montana or Wyoming, but in the utopian cinematic version of my mind, it feels like it could be like this!
The golden hour 🌞
Our Toyota LandCruiser for our voyage across the Namibian deserts. With 200k+ miles on it, traversing through countless unpaved roads, and subjected to extreme weather conditions, old faithful never let us down 🤞
Now that’s what you call a sunset! ☀️
Making our way up Big Daddy Dune - one of the tallest sand dunes in the world at 325M in height
We trekked across the ridge line for about 2 hours before reaching the top 🙏🏻
It looked like something out of a movie…and as it turns out, it was where Mad Max Fury Road was filmed 🎥
We finally made it to the top! As it turns out, it’s easier to hike in socks than in shoes! (no need to pour the sand out every few minutes) 🧦
Shadow art! With the beautiful white clay Deadvlei below 🎨 😎
The ground was surprisingly cool on our bear feet as we walked across the white clay pan formation of Deadvlei
The trees here (which have died long ago), have become ossified and stuck permanently into the hardened clay. They are believed to be around 1000 years old
More flamingos than I have ever seen in my life! 🦩 Turned pink by their seafood diet 🐟
Driving up and down these dunes was quite the thrill!
Along this stretch, “The Skeleton Coast” is where many ships (and more recently cars) have been wrecked by the tides
Our Bear Grylls(esque) tour guide (if you don’t know who he is, you can get a taste here) found this little translucent baby lizard and asked to borrow my iPhone. With his photographic skills, he was able to take this incredible photo 😮
Natures rollercoaster! 🎢
You can get a sense of how the tide comes right up to the feet of the dunes! One of the only places in the world where this type of topography exists 🌊
A stark reminder of the beauty of nature 🙏
The lack of light pollution (combined with the power of the iPhone’s incredible camera lens) allows for some pretty spectacular shots of the night sky (especially for an amateur like myself) 🌙
